The Brand New Roll App From Eye'Em Helps You Rank Photos On Your Phone

Eye'Em has launched a brand new app called The Roll and designed to rank pictures on your iPhone.

According to Tech Times, this new app sorts photos to help users find the exact image they are looking for. The application can also uncover the best photos saved on the camera roll so that users do not need to continuously scroll.

The application developed by Eye'Em serves as a way to organize all of the users' photos by automatically grouping together like pictures by location, date, topic and event. The images are classified on criteria such as "portraits," "best of the week" and "city," so that all the related pictures are in one category.

The best images from each group are displayed by the app on top. For instance, if the user took a few similar selfies, The Roll app will group them together and display the best ones on top of the others. This will help users to find fast all the similar photos and delete ones taken by accident or the duplicates.

The Roll app uses a special algorithm to determine which photos are the best, giving them an aesthetic score. The algorithm uses both deep learning based on choices from curators and artistic principles to give a score between 0 and 100.

The quality scoring is not yet perfect but it is certainly impressive. The feature is also very efficient at filtering out images that are under the optimal standard, photos that suffer from blur or that are too dark.

In order to identify objects, moods and emotions and tag photos, the application also uses proprietary image recognition technology called EyeEm Vision. With the help of this feature, The Roll further sorts photos and makes it easier to search for a specific image.

According to Tech Crunch, technology like The Roll and EyeEm Vision will revolutionize the way we use photography. Users will no longer have to tag photos in order to find them. The Roll will give users unprecedented explorability and access of their own photographs.

For now, The Roll can be freely downloaded for iOS. In the near future, Eye'Em will also release a version for Android.
