Samsung will reportedly kick off five flagship phones next year, including the mysterious Galaxy X, which many hinted will be the first foldable smartphone with 4K display.
If there is some truth about these rumors, then the expected units to come out in 2017 are the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Edge, Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy Note 7 Edge and Galaxy X. Except for the Galaxy X, all other devices will come with a Super AMOLED display with a 2.5K resolution and an RGB subpixel arrangement.
Meanwhile, as for the mysterious Galaxy X, the Korean company is reportedly working on a foldable smartphone with a diamond PenTile subpixel arrangement, according to Phandroid. On the other hand, Korean news agency ETNews revealed Samsung Galaxy X will be a 5-inch gadget that can expand up to 7-inch when opened. It will also have a screen resolution as high as 4K or Ultra HD.
According to Digital Trends, there are two variants of the device being tested. One is allegedly equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 620, while the other has Snapdragon 820. It will also feature the latest Qualcomm processor featuring a Quick Charge 3.0. Furthermore, it will also have 3GB of RAM, a MicroSD expandable storage and a non-removable battery.
Such rumors are not new to the tech world as Samsung's Galaxy X (aka Project Valley) once made rounds across the Internet in 2014. It also introduced a flexible screen panel known as Youm during the 2011 CES, according to Tech Times.
The Galaxy X is a fresh idea from the company and would most likely draw attention from tech savvy people. Meanwhile, experts predict the foldable handset will be welcomed positively, as people prefer small handsets more; thus, a foldable design would make a better alternative.
"Although mass production cannot be concluded hastily since Samsung Electronics still has few other major tasks to complete, I've heard that Samsung Electronics had made a considerable amount of results in the time being," an industry source said.
