'Dark Souls 3' Updates: From Software Removes Latest Anti-Cheating Patch After Freezing Issues

A "Dark Souls 3" patch that was released to address cheating in the PC version of the game has been recently pulled back by developer From Software. The said patch was removed after players experienced some freezing and other glitches in the game.

The action role-playing game "Dark Souls 3" has been touted as one of the best games of the year. However, cheating has been a common occurrence in the PC version of the game. To address the concern, From Software has issued a patch on Friday, May 13, that was meant to stop players from cheating. Unfortunately, the said patch appears to have broken the game, as stated in a report posted on Kotaku.

The patch has resulted to regular game freezes that have affected many players' gameplay. From Software announced in its Steam Community forum on Monday, May 16, that the patch "has been removed temporarily to fix the freeze issues."

In its original patch notes, the developer pointed out that the said patch would have addressed the "deviant behavior" of some gamers while playing "Dark Souls 3." Some of the issues that the patch would have fixed while playing the game's online mode included players being sent to their own world, as well as getting spawned at Firelink Shrine. Players being transformed into full Dragon Body status is also another issue that the patch should have resolved, as stated in the statement released at the Steam forum.

From Software's initial patch notes also mentioned that the company's Server Team will check all the player's accounts before they issue game penalties for cheating or deviant behavior. In its updated statement, the developer stated that they are working to get the patch fixed and reinstated as soon as possible. From Software also assured players who "fall victim to one of the bugs previously fixed" that they will not be penalized.

The developer has yet to announce when it expects to release the fixed patch. Meanwhile, "Dark Souls 3" gamers who are playing its online mode would have to suffer through the game glitches. Avid game fans should also wait for further patch announcements.
