In less than two hours of the opening of ticket window, all the passes to Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) got sold out. Moscone Centre West in San Francisco has been booked from June 11 to 15. As many as 5,000 developers purchased the $1,699 ticket to pour in an easy $8 million cash into Apple's account. Apple fans are eager to see the upcoming flagship iPhone model of world's most valuable company getting released in June. But their prayers can go unanswered as WWDC 2012 release of iPhone 5 looks unlikely.
Here are top 3 reasons that makes us think that why WWDC 2012 is not up for iPhone 5.
iPhone 4S release date
Apple gives its each device a lifetime of minimum one year as a flagship device to represent the company. Its current flagship smartphone - iPhone 4S - was released back in October last year. Moreover, iPhone 4S is still a hot product in the market.
Samsung Galaxy S3 debuting on May 3
Apple's arch rival - Samsung - is about to unleash its next flagship smartphone Galaxy S3. The Korean tech giant has confirmed the release its next Galaxy device on May 3. Releasing a competitive mobile around the same time will result in business loss for both Apple and Samsung as consumers will get divided between iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3. And folks at Cupertino HQ cannot afford a loss. So Apple is going to hold the line until Galaxy S3 enters a relatively cold zone and then will make a blast in the market with its iPhone 5 in October.
Supply Constraints
Earlier this year, Qualcomm confirmed that its Gobi v5 chips are going to be feature in upcoming iPhone. At the moment, Qualcomm is running short on meeting the demand for its baseband chips. It is believed that iPhone 5 will be 4G LTE compatible. Shortage of Qualcomm LTE chip will slow down the production of iPhone 5, resulting in delayed release date.
"At this stage we cannot secure enough supply to meet the increasing demand we are experiencing," said Qualcomm's CEO Paul Jacobs.
Now, What?
In case of iPhone 4S, the holidays quarter help Apple a lot to become world's most valuable and profitable company. Alike iPhone 4S, Apple iPhone 5 will also debut in October.
Clearly iPhone 5 is not coming out at WWDC 2012. Then what are all these people gathering for? Well, Apple has a lot in its inventory to surprise it followers. Apple may launch iOS v6 at WWDC 2012. Mac OS X Mountain Lion is also expected to debut at the June event.
"We have a great WWDC planned this year and can't wait to share the latest news about iOS and OS X Mountain Lion with developers," said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple, in a statement.
Rumors of the next-gen MacBook Pro with Ivy Bridge architecture are also buzzing high.
