Toyota and Takata air bags linkages continue to baffle both companies and the car owners. More than 1.6 million recalled cars are underway. Owing to the figure, it is undeniable that the crisis still exists over the faulty features of the cars.
Toyota Motors has confirmed that it will indeed implement the recall of almost 1.6 million additional U.S. vehicles for front passenger side that has the Takata air bag inflators. It has been noted that the faulty features could cause unstable outcomes in the long run.
Earlier this month, Takata said that another 35 million to 40 million U.S. inflators defective at the urging of U.S. regulators, a move that more than doubles the number of inflators recalled, Fortune reports.
The faulty Takata inflators have been noted as the reason of the 100 injuries and 13 deaths recorded across the globe. Toyota also relayed that even though the cars are being recalled, not all Corolla, Matrix, Yaris, 4Runner, Sienna, Scion xB, Lexus ES, GX and IS vehicles crafted between 2006 and 2011 would be subjected for recall.
Given the fact that the safety issue of airbags has brought much scrutiny, it is also noteworthy to mention that the crisis is considered as the largest recall in the U.S. auto safety history. Also, the malfunctioning of Takata air bag inflators has been proven to render harm to drivers and passengers.
Takata had insisted for years that there was no problem with its inflators but admitted the defect last May wherein the safety agency gave the company until the end of 2018 to prove that the inflaters were safe, according to The New York Times.
Despite the admission of Takata Corporation, the damage and harm have been done. And the future for the airbag maker is under major downpour. It has lost not only profits but public trust as well. With regard to Toyota with Takata airbags, the 1.6 million recalled cars are more than enough to prove the underlying possibility of risks and harm. As for the speculation of the airbag crisis ending, it might or might not happen anytime soon.
