The new Doom game was released last week to the cheers of old and new fans of the game. Released on Playstation 4 and Xbox One, the game offers ultra violence coupled with the intensely fast-paced first-person shooter experience that only Doom can offer. But one thing that has stood out is the fact that the game's bosses are extremely well-made.
There are many reboots of familiar enemies. From Imps to cacodemons to pinkies, almost everyone is present but the boss Cyberdemon is sure to jog your memory. Kotaku notes that Cyberdemon is special even to its creators that it was not even mentioned in the original manual. Only a cryptic, “Some of the monsters you'll face aren't shown here. Don't say we didn't warn you.”
The new Doom is different. Bethesda and id Software were keen on showing fans the face of the new Cyberdemon early on. But as to when the boss actually appears in the game, it is fairly late—so much so that an entire level is dedicated to hyping it up. To return to Hell, you, Doom Guy, needs to recover an artifact embedded in the demon itself.
Cyberdemon also gets another distinction. It gets a lifebar that shows you just how much you still have to endure before finishing off this very nasty fellow. Cyberdemon is the only enemy in the game which has this. The boss features missiles that splash the entire surroundings and a big laser that can kill you in one hit in ultra violence difficulty mode. He can also dash so watch out!
The 1993 Doom game tactics would have been fairly straightforward. Attack, strafe left and right, retreat, and repeat. However, the new Doom game would not be complete without a revamp of this as well. The difficulty is significantly increased with jet boots. These allow Doom Guy to alter directions in mid-air. Clearly, Doom 2016 is one tough game that will seriously put to test all your skills in killing monsters—and getting killed by them too.
