If latest rumors are to be believed, the Chinese tech firm Xiaomi is planning to get into the drone business, and in all likelihood, the device will be unveiled soon.
At the launch of the company's Mi Max and MIUI 8 earlier this month, Xiomi CEO Lei Jun disclosed that they would be releasing the Mi Band 2 at the beginning of June. Now, unidentified sources claimed that apart from sporting health-related features, the wearable device will possess the aptitude to control a drone, which Xiamoi is expected to unveil before May ends, Tech Times reported.
Considering that Xiaomi has gotten into virtually everything related to tech either directly or through its partners, the news does not come as a complete surprise. Today, the Chinese tech firm is into everything from smartphones to smart TV sets to smart air conditioning units to smart rice cookers. So, it is not shocking that a drone will be the next product from Xiaomi.
Recently, Xiaomi teased its drone by posting two photos on its Miui forums. The first image is a spider-like device, which is quite difficult to gauge considering the mostly black color of the picture. On the other hand, the second photo shows a toy bamboo-copter spun by children in their hands to get them to fly.
The surprise does not just end here. Xiaomi said that it will bring something wonderful and cool flying "to us very soon." "A Bamboo-copter ..? In China, it's the earliest flying toys consisted of feathers at the end of a stick, which was rapidly spun between the hands and released into flight. Shall we discover the world with Mi _____?" the post on Miui forum read.
Aside from the post and the photographs of the purported drones, very little is known about the company's plans in this regard. However, some time back, Xiaomi had filed a patent for a drone that would be secured with a smart wristband. The wristband can be used to control the drone's flight path.
The recent post as well as the patent application has fueled speculation that the Chinese tech giant is venturing out into manufacturing drones. As of now, the company has not confirmed the reports but is likely to make an announcement in this regard on May 25.
