Overwatch Mercy Guide: How To Be The Best Support Ever

Overwatch is not just any ordinary shooter game. For such games, teamwork is the key. And as with all other video games, a strong support base is essential for the team to function properly to ultimately lead to victory.

Mercy is hailed as one of the best support picks in the game, based on the infographic released by Blizzard Entertainment. With her healing abilities and buffs, making her a true blue "guardian angel," any team with Mercy as their support is pretty much guaranteed victory. Of course, this is provided that the player knows how to utilize the hero's skills properly. Here we detail the hero's strengths as well as her weaknesses to help you be the best Overwatch support ever.

Play Style

Mercy is a pure-support hero and her play style primarily involves following her allies around, providing healing support and damage boosts with her Caduceus Staff. Her blaster gun does not have a huge damage output compared to other characters so players are just better off using her superb healing skills instead, making the entire team more effective.

Mercy can also bring her dead allies back to life with her Resurrect spell, considered as one of the most powerful ultimates in Overwatch. Mercy can also regenerate her life points when she's not taking damage.

Weaknesses

Gamers should know that in almost all games, healers have one of the lowest defenses, and Mercy is no exception. Use Mercy's Guardian Angel ability to continuously fly to her allies and focus on healing and damage buffs. Knowing when and which ally to support in the heat of the battle is what makes a good Mercy player. Once Mercy is cornered by an enemy, however, it will be difficult to escape and inexperienced Mercy players might find themselves dying quite often.

Ability Guide

Mercy's ultimate weapon is her trusty Caduceus Staff which is used primarily for healing and buffs. Her Guardian Angel ability allows her to fly towards a targeted ally, making it easier to provide healing when it is needed. Players would be using this ability quite often, like flying from one ally to another and making sure everyone's HP is full.

As stated above, the key to success is knowing who needs your buff and healing skills the most. Furious Paul came up with a list of characters to prioritize, with Zarya, Reinhardt, McCree, Winston, and Pharah on top of the 'must heal first' list. Soldier 76, Genji, Reaper, Winston, and Pharah will most benefit from the damage boost ability, so make sure to prioritize them if they are on the team.

Use the Resurrect ability wisely. For the ultimate skill to be used efficiently, the player would need to find out who and when to resurrect, taking into consideration the respawn location, and how quickly will the player be back into the fight. Furious Paul has also listed the characters which should take priority when using the Resurrect spell, with Reinhardt, Zarya, Roadhog, Zenyatta, and McCree high on the list.

Knowing how to utilize her to her full potential, and when to use her abilities in crucial moments, is what makes a player a good Mercy player. Mercy is easily one of the best teammates in Overwatch, and with the tips and tricks above, your teammates will definitely thank you.
