Apple To Launch All-New MacBook Pros In 2014 Q4 With Touch ID, OLED Display Panel

So far, most laptop updates from Apple have been incremental in nature. Now the Cupertino tech titan is gearing up to launch a high-end notebook that may come with some killer features never seen before.

The new MacBook Pros that Apple plans to launch later this year will incorporate a number of important features like Touch ID fingerprint sensor, 9to5 Mac reported, quoting a recent report released by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a recent note to investors, Kuo wrote that the upcoming MacBook Pro may also include support for an OLED touch bar located just above the notebook's keyboard.

According to prevailing rumors, the OLED display panel will supposedly come as a replacement for the traditional function keys. Meanwhile, it would certainly be interesting to see how Apple incorporates the Touch ID on the new laptop, especially in view of rumors that the upcoming iPhone 7 is likely to have an edge-to-edge display along with an embedded home button and Touch ID sensor.

Meanwhile, it is also rumored that the 2016 MacBook Pro will sport a thinner as well as a lighter design. According to Kuo, who has accurately predicted Apple product launches in the past, the upcoming notebook from Apple will be "the most significant update ever" from the Cupertino tech giant.

In his report, Kuo wrote that though long overlooked, the MacBook line is the "brightest spot for Apple's 2016 rollouts." According to the analyst, this is especially true of the two new MacBook Pro models that Apple plans to introduce in 2014 Q4. These notebook models will be thinner and lighter, incorporate Touch ID, use OLED display touch bar (which will replace physical function keys) and implement USB- C/Thunderbolt 3, Yahoo! reported.

Moreover, the upcoming MacBook Pros will accommodate Intel's faster and more energy-efficient Skylake processors, making them enticing to customers during the ensuring holiday season. The new MacBook Pros are likely to feature 'butterfly keyboard,' which Apple introduced on the 2015 MacBook and has become popular since.

As far as the screen size is concerned, Kuo says that it will be the same as the existing MacBook Pros and come in 13-inch and 15-inch form factors. Currently, the 13-inch model starts at $1,299, while the 15-inch model comes in with a starting price of $1,999.
