The 2016 Macbook Pro and the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 are the purported upcoming titans of the tech industry. This is how the devices may fare against each other if the rumors are true.
Build and Design
The 2016 Macbook Pro will most likely come with a redesigned body, but it will not shy away from its predecessor's appearance. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo gushed in May that the new Pro will just be lighter and thinner than its predecessor.
The laptop is expected to sport an OLED display touch bar atop the familiar keyboard with butterfly keys, which will replace the function keys. There is also mention of a Touch ID sensor, as per Macworld.
On the other hand, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is speculated to borrow the build and design elements of its predecessor. Hence, consumers can expect the Windows 10 hybrid to rock the same tablet body with a built-in kickstand. A detachable keyboard base will still be part of the unit, albeit being an optional accessory.
Display Quality
Apple fans can delight over the new 2016 Macbook Pro since it is claimed to come with a 2304x1440 display. The display of the new Macbook could also get an upgraded ppi. Instead of packing in 226 ppi, Apple may up the pixel game by putting 400-500 pixels per inch.
On the other hand, the Surface Pro 5 will arrive with a more striking display than that of the Surface Pro 4, which has a 2736x1824 IPS LCD screen. The pixel density of the current Microsoft hybrid is 267 ppi. If the speculations are right, then consumers can expect to see a new Surface Pro with 4K or 5K screen resolution.
Tech sites are claiming that Microsoft maybe looking at a 13.3-inch screen for its Surface Pro 5. But this could just be wishful thinking since Microsoft wants its Surface tablet hybrid to be different from its Surface Book, which sports a 13.5-inch screen, according to Trusted Reviews.
Processors and Graphics
The 2016 Macbook Pro will possibly hit the market with Intel's powerful Skylake processor, which is a good match to the El Capitan OS in ensuring that the laptop operates smoothly and utilizes battery life efficiently.
Graphics-wise, Apple could be tapping AMD and Nvidia. The two companies are rumored to be creating robust GPUs to enhance the device's graphics quality, especially in games.
Meanwhile, the Surface Pro 5 could disappoint with its Core M processor with Intel Core i series upgrades. That said it won't be as powerful as its predecessor. The same can be said of the hybrid's graphics.
Price and Release Date
The 2016 Macbook Pro is rumored to launch on June at the WWDC 2016. The base model of the 13-inch variant will most likely cost $1,460. As for the 15-inch model, it will sell at $2,336.
Interestingly, the Surface Pro 5 is also rumored to arrive this June, but there are other sources claiming that it won't be unveiled until October of this year. Its market value is expected to be cheaper at $1,094.
