The "Fable" series proved to be a hit, as it accumulated a huge following of fans. And just when things were believed to be non-existent, Lionhead developers were actually working secretly on a new game. It will be called "Fable Fortune" and will soon to arrive in the shelves come 2017.
According to International Business Times, the people behind the titular franchise is planning to set up a crowdfunding process for "Fable Fortune" anytime soon. The upcoming free-to-play game will arrive on PC and Xbox One next year.
It should be noted that Microsoft buried Lionhead 6 feet down under, resulting to over 100 unemployed people. Fortunately, the development team won the heart of the tech giant, acquiring a licensing right to the "Fable" franchise.
Currently, the devs are working under the umbrella of Flaming Fowl Studios. And with hopes to release "Fable Fortune" in 2017, the company has opted to ask for funding (£250,000) in Kickstarter. The forthcoming digital game is said to have a gameplay style akin to that of "Hearthstone."
In the studio's Kickstarter page, they mentioned about how open Microsoft was with the project. While they have been given the right to utilize the series, they do not own it. Nonetheless, they have the right amount of creative freedom to develop "Fable Fortune" independently.
Eurogamer cites that "Fable Fortune" is being worked on together with Mediatonic, a video game developer based in the U.K. The game is expected to introduce similar elements from the "Fable" universe, with a twist of "Hearthstone's" gameplay.
"Fable Fortune" creatures will be shown in either arena or card form. Interestingly, the cards will have the capability of transforming into good and evil versions -- something that the "Fable" franchise is best known for.
A co-op mode will also be included, allowing players to team up with their friends against the in-game monsters. Furthermore, "Fable Fortune" will introduce a PvP league and a gameplay warping event.
