Gear Fit2 vs Mi Band 2: How Well Does Xiaomi's Budget Wearable Stack Up Against Samsung's Premium Fitness Band

Xiaomi is a Chinese brand that started in 2010 and has since rivaled the best and the biggest in the industry. The company offers cheaper smartphones and fitness trackers and its strategy has proven to be successful time and time again. Last quarter, Xiaomi was second place to Fitbit when it came to wearable devices.

On June 7, customers will be able to purchase Xiaomi's third release for activity trackers, the Mi Band 2. According to CNet, it follows the footsteps of the Mi Band and the Mi Band Pulse. Despite only being $23, the Mi Band 2 comes with an OLED display, is scratch and fingerprint resistant and is bright enough to be seen under direct sunlight.

The new item will also have features to show the time, calories burned, the number of steps the wearer has taken, heart rate and batter charge among others. The different details are viewable with a quick press of a button. The Mi Band 2 is also designed with an accelerometer, which is meant to more accurately track the steps made.

A tough competitor of Xioami, Samsung, released their first ever fitness tracker, the Samsung Gear Fit, in 2014. The company boasted their release of the first ever wearable and AMOLED touch display, and features such as a heart rate sensor, pedometer, exercise modes and companion modes. The tech giant has since upgraded the item and decreased the price as well.

The new item, aptly called the Gear Fit2, was launched on June 2 and sports a curved AMOLED touch display with 322-pixels per inch and should fit the wearer much more naturally than the original. As E Week notes, however, what could be more impressive is how Samsung has incorporated a lot of their smartphone features into the new Gear Fit2.

Other than being able to track steps, calories burned, heart rate and a user's amount of sleep, the Gear Fit2 also has wireless music capabilities and GPS. It should also be able to tell whether the wearer is running, rowing, on the elliptical or any other physical activity. Other than that, the Gear Fit2 is also able to compute and provide the user with a Step Goal.

The Samsung Gear Fit2 is priced at $179, which is already $20 cheaper than the original.
