The Volkswagen Group stated that a new fully equipped Audi A5 Coupe that will boost sales of the Mercedes-Benz C-class and BMW 4 series Coupe rival. CEO Rupert Stadler announced that the new Audi A5 Coupe is a sportier and elegant version that is enhanced with advanced connectivity interfaces, improved safety amenities and more room for comfort.
Sales of the A5 in the U.S. went down to 37 percent (3,532 units sold) through May. Stadler said that with the recent enhancements made with the elegant A5, this Coupe version will receive higher sales in the sporty 2-door, 4-seat ride segment.
According to Automotive News, the updated Audi A5 Coupe gets the lighter MLB platform, which was also utilized by the newly launched A4 sedan, Audi's best-selling model worldwide. With a longer wheelbase, A5 offers more room for comfort both for driver and passengers as well as cargo capacity.
In Europe, offered engine lineup for the new Audi A5 Coupe includes three diesel powertrains and two gasoline engines, which are more powerful and efficient than current engine versions. The new A5 Coupe has 17 percent more power and is 22 percent more efficient than its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the Audi S5 performance variant provides 21 horsepower using the new turbocharged V-6, which totals the system output to 354 horsepower. The V6-powered S5 performance iteration accelerates from a stop to 100 kph in 4.7 seconds, as reported by The Sun Daily.
The A5 Coupe version will also present a new virtual cockpit that welcomes the inclusion of Audi's 12.3-inch high-definition digital dash panel. It will also come with Auto smartphone interface via Android support and Apple CarPlay plus a built-in SIM card.
New feature for safety integrated for the A5 includes an adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist for handling capability at low speeds. Also included is the active lane assist that is a driver-friendly feature that keeps the car from steering away from the driving lane.
Other features that the all-new A5 Coupe offers include adaptive cruise control, xenon headlights, LED running lights, LED interior lights, LED rear lights, adaptive cruise control, Bluetooth interface, USB with charging function, Audi MMI radio with 7-inch color display, three-spoke multifunction steering column, Audi's dynamic drive select handling system and height-adjustable belt feeds.
