Some of the most popular "Mortal Kombat" characters will be getting their own specially crafted beer named after them. Game companies have licensed various merchandise for their popular titles, from shoes, like the recently announced Vans Nintendo collection, to figurines, like Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Collection. Global Beverage Traders, however, have something different in mind.
The California-based company has launched an exclusive line of specialty beer inspired by the fighting game "Mortal Kombat X." The craft beers will be made by Sound Brewery in Poulsbo, Washington, and is licensed by Warner Bros., according to Gamespot.
The beers will come in 22oz bottles and is said to come in bold flavors "aimed to match the intensity and excitement of Mortal Kombat X", according to Global Beverage Traders' page. There flavors will be released.
The Imperial IPA (India Pale Ale) will be based on Sub-Zero. The beer can be enjoyed either ice cold for more hops or warm for a more malt flavor and is 8.5% alcohol.
Meanwhile the Imperial Saison is inspired by Raiden, which has a hint of earthly and herbal notes in its aroma. Lastly, Scorpion's Imperial Stout is a mix of fiery southwest chillies and cool Madagascar Vanilla Bean. The bottles will be distributed exclusively by Global Beverage for a limited time only. Both the Saison and Scorpion beers are 8% alcohol.
This was not the first time that beers based on video games were released. Australian beer company Black Hops Brewing has made a alcoholic drink based on Activision's shooter game "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3," aptly named Black Hops Midnight Pale Ale. The beer is described as a classic light and refreshing American Pale Ale with an aroma of pine and citrus fruit.
Bethesda, on the other hand, has collaborated with famous beverage company Carlsberg to create beer inspired by their latest game, "Fallout 4." Fallout beer is made of malted barleys and selected hops, making it refreshingly zesty. The bottle, which reads "Inspired by Vault-Tec Industries," looks like a cool collector's item. Unfortunately, it's only available in the UK, Gamespot reports.
