Facebook may have scrapped their plans of buying Instagram for $1 billion, which they announced just a few weeks back, and have instead launched its own photo-sharing camera app, dubbed Facebook Camera, on Thursday.
The app has been specially developed for iPhones and can be downloaded from Apple's App Store.
In an interview with The Verge, Photos product manager Dirk Stoop said that the aim of the app is to let the users share photos as quickly as possible and in higher-resolution than before.
The new Facebook Camera app works like any other camera application available for smartphones. All you need to do is tap the camera icon in the upper left corner of your iPhone screen, aim and click. With this app you can post a bunch of photos at once on Facebook, work with crops and filters, see friends' latest photos in one place, tag friends, add captions, determine your location and see photos from different apps. The app, however, doesn't allow you to delete photos or your friends to comment.
According to The Verge, the app will soon be launched on other platforms.
The latest app will be compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iPad (3rd generation) and iPad Wi-Fi + 4G. Note that it will requires iOS 4.3 or later.
