Instagram will include soon in its flagship application a new text translation feature.
The photo-based social network has announced on a blog post that it is currently developing a translation feature that will be launched in the coming month. A new "See Translation" button will be placed beneath user profiles and photos once the feature will come live.
Instagram users will be able soon to better enjoy the photo snaps posted by their friends abroad. The company wrote in the post announcing the news that their online community has become more global. Therefore, no matter the language the users speak, the company is committed to facilitate their understanding of the full story of a moment.
The app's settings will allow users to choose the language in which the new feature will automatically translate bios, captions and comments, according to MacRumors. In the beginning, 24 languages will be available for the machine translation feature. According to CNET, the option will not show on comments it does not recognize the language of or on older comments.
Facebook and Twitter have already offered automatic translation features, so Instagram is just catching up with the competitors by the introduction of the new feature. Currently Instagram is owned by Facebook. The social media network has been going through some changes recently, among them being included a redesigned app and a new logo.
Another change recently announced by Instagram, according to the Verge, is an update to its Explore section. A new feature will allow Instagram to start recommending video collections it thinks users will be interested in.
These collections will be organized in "channels" around certain topics. At launch it will be 20 such channels. Among them are included topics such as "skateboarders," "cake decorating," "comedians," "cheerleaders" and "pit bulls."
Instagram announced earlier this week that its social media network is used now by over 500 million people. Among them, 80 percent of users are living outside the U.S. and 300 million people are using the app every day.
