The most-awaited untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1, namely Absinthe 2.0, is finally here. The new jailbreak software was announced on Friday in the "Hack In The Box" security conference in Amsterdam.

Almost all iDevices (except for the third generation Apple TV) running on Apple's iOS 5.1.1 firmware can be jailbroken now with the latest Absinthe 2.0.

The devices compatible with Absinthe 2.0 are - iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4 CDMA, iPhone 4S, iPad 1, iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iPad 2 GSM, iPad 2 CDMA, iPad 3 Wi-Fi, iPad 3 CDMA, iPad 3 Global, iPod 3G, iPod 4G and Apple TV 2.

Just after the release of Absinthe 2.0, the Chronic Dev Team has again announced the launch of an updated version of the tool - Absinthe 2.0.1. This version will fix "a couple of little bugs," according to the Team.

Follow the steps to use Absinthe 2.0.1 to perform an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1. The guide has been provided Redmond Pie.

Important: Before you jailbreak your device, make sure to have a complete backup of your device using iTunes or iCloud. You should also disable the passcode of your device. And, if you are using an unlocked version of the iPhone, it is recommended now to avoid using Absinthe to jailbreak the device.

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Download Absinthe 2.0.1.

Absinthe v2.0.1 MacOSX (10.5, 10.6, 10.7)

Absinthe v2.0.1 Windows (XP/Vista/Win7)

Absinthe v2.0.1 Linux (x86/x86_64)

Step 2: After downloading, locate the compressed file and for quick access, extract all of the contents and place them on the desktop.

Step 3: Use a standard 30-pin connector cable and connect the device to your computer.

Step 4: Now run the downloaded Absinthe 2.0.1 through the executable file. Once launched, the program will show an initial interface with some text-based information and a "Jailbreak" button.

Step 5: Hit the "Jailbreak" button to begin the process. The experts in Redmond Pie advise you to not to be alarmed if the device looks like if it is going through a restore process. And, do not touch your device till the process gets over.

Step 6: Once the payload is over, the Cydia icon will be displayed on the device's homescreen. Your device is jailbroken! Now you can install any extensions or packages via Cydia, if your device supports.
