In its third year of beta testing, Apple has launched its new MacOS Sierra. It has come on quickly, arriving less than a month after Apple announced the new operating system. The announcement was made at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Those that signed up to try Sierra are able to experience firsthand the new OS for Apple desktops and laptops.
According to Computer World, Sierra brings a slew of improvements to the previous MacOS. Most notably, a change in how the user gets to interact with the Mac. This new experience is brought on greatly by Siri finally making her way to the Apple desktop. Five years after its debut into Apple products, the virtual assistant is finally giving Mac users a helping hand.
With Siri, users will be able to control some functions of the Mac with simple voice commands, much like how Siri works on the iPhone. Of course, there are specific commands that are only applicable on the Mac as well.
Siri comes with a new Preference Pane, which is viewable under System Preferences. This allows the users to customize the feature, including its voice. The feature can be activated from the icon found in the Dock.
As Engadget reports, another exciting feature that adds to the new Mac experience has plenty to do with the Apple Watch. Currently, the developer beta of WatchOS 3 allows testers to turn their Mac on with the help of the wearable device.
Picture-in-picture, which applies to Safari and iTunes, is a new feature that is available with Sierra as well. Apple has also updated the interface of iTunes, as well as added a messaging app that is full of its own specific features. MacOS Sierra also fixes a few problems from its predecessor.
The final version of Sierra is not due to come out until later this year.
