According to rumors, Apple Watch 2 release date is expected in September with major updates like a built-in GPS and front-facing camera with Face Time.
Yibada reports that Apple was expected that to announce the Apple Watch 2 at the company's press event held on March 21. However, the Cupertino-based high-tech company did not mention anything about the upcoming smartwatch even at the WWDC 2016.
Up to date there is no mention about a Apple Watch 2's specific launch date. But tech experts expect that Apple is likely to release the next-gen watch this year, alongside the iPhone 7, according to DigiTimes.
According to Barry Lam, the chairman of Quanta, the Apple Watch 2 release is going to happen in September. Back in 2015, Quanta has been the company that manufactured the first set of Apple Watches. For this reason, the company is also expected to manufacture the next version of the Apple Watch.
In a recent announcement, Lam said that by the end of the second quarter of this year, there will be a limited stock of the next-gen Watch. He added that more stocks will become available in the third quarter.
Tech analysts speculate that Apple will make the next version of Apple Watch almost 20 to 40 percent thinner than its current version. According to University Herald, the Watch 2 is also rumored to feature a new microLED screen, or a thinner OLED screen than that used in the first Apple Watch version.
As the technology is quite expensive, the microLED screen in the Watch 2 is likely to push its price higher. The advantage of the new screen tech, however, is that it can increase the battery life.
Unlike the original Apple Watch, the new version is expected be more independent and less dependable on an iPhone. It is also speculated that the upcoming Apple wearable device will have an advanced level of waterproofing protection, according to a report published by MacRumors.
