The 2016 MacBook Pro is expected to release this Fall. When it arrives, it will be Apple's thinnest and lightest laptop. Logically, this pushes out the need for an MacBook Air line, which is why many believed the MacBook Air will be discontinued. However, new rumors are being released that claim Apple will be releasing a 2017 MacBook Air, with its own specific specs that are sure to keep consumers happy.
According to MobiPicker, the 2016 MacBook Pro will sport an OLED touch screen bar, Touch ID, wireless charging, multiple USB Type C ports and 5K video technology. In fact, the publication goes on to claim that the 2016 MacBook Pro may become the best laptop in the market.
It will be powered by an Intel Skylake processor, which is not expected to drain the battery. Moreover, the battery life will not be sacrificed despite the dimensions of the 2016 MacBook Pro.
Meanwhile the 2017 MacBook Air is expected to also be thinner and lighter than the last installment, according to MacWorld. However, just how much thinner and lighter it will be is still not confirmed. It will also feature an updated battery and RAM as well as a tweaked cooling method.
Whether or not Apple decides to install a Retina display on the 2017 MacBook Air is still unknown at this point. It was previously rumored that a Retina display would come with the 2015 update, but that did not happen. Withholding the Retina display from the Air line is undoubtedly Apple's way to drive down costs of the unit. As price is one of the Air's biggest selling point, it is probable that Apple will not be making any updates to the display.
The 2017 MacBook Air is also expected to sport at least one USB Type C port. It should also be equipped with the latest Intel processor upon its release.
