An original iPad prototype with a unique feature was recently sold for $10,200 on eBay. This iPad actually features iPad's actual design with a portrait and a landscape-mode dock connector.
Apple changed its tablet design and created the iPad with only one dock connector back in 2010. Apple had planned to release iPad with two dock connectors but had changed its plan for some reasons. This two dock connection port-featuring iPad is packed with Switchboard. Switchboard is a testing platform. However, people won't be disappointed if they want to own an incredibly unique iPad like the eBay seller described.
"This is one of a VERY small amount of Apple prototype devices and you rarely see these on eBay" described the seller in his eBay post. According to his description, both the dock connectors are functional and can be used for charging the device or to connect it with PC. While some people believe that Apple was planning to release the iPad with two dock connectors, it's also possible that Apple was trying to decide where to place the dock connector by observing this prototype model.
The seller posted the device with plenty of photos to prove that his auction is legit. There is no sign of "iPad" name but there is an Apple logo in the back. There is also a prototype identification number on two different places. Its touchscreen is not working properly but it turns on and the display functions properly. The bid started with $4,800 and ended at a surprising rate, $10,200.
The first question that appears after reading this news is how someone managed to get their hands on the prototype iPad. "Judging by how Apple works, it's most likely stolen, but I'm not sure about that..." The seller refused to give more information as he believes revealing further information can reveal his identity. Judging these facts, the auction's legality is highly questionable. Apple might try to take things under control and track the device. However, the package ready to be transferred to the buyer and is already out in the open.
