The Nintendo NX Is Really Happening; Here's Everything To Know About it

The Nintendo NX has been part of the rumor mill for quite a while. With the recent release of the NES, gaming enthusiasts guessed that the NX would take quite a while to hit the market. Fortunately, the unit seems to be worth the wait. Further, players will not really have to wait that much longer, as the console is expected to arrive in March 2017.

In a statement quoted by IGN, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said, "We think having a new machine coming is going to help the industry to continue to grow and to take lots more casual players back to the industry." He also confirmed that what Ubisoft has seen so far is "really great." This is pretty high praise coming from one of the most successful and popular game developers.

Currently, Nintendo only has "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" scheduled for release with the Nintendo NX. Naturally, this list will grow as the release comes closer, likely following with "Pikmin 4.

Unfortunately, Guillemot said nothing else about what was shown to the company. So design and specs are still up in the air at this point.

It would seem that the Nintendo NX is shaping up to follow the likes of the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS - consoles that enticed not just hardcore gamers, but also casual players.

Tech Crunch points out that Nintendo's biggest success has been the Nintendo Wii, which primarily cashed in on more casual gamers. This was all possible because the Wii was so different from the standard gaming devices in the market. It made innovations in gaming by changing what a console could do and expanding what it was capable of.

As such, it is likely that the Nintendo NX will be different as well. In fact, plenty of unconfirmed rumors are suggesting the same. It has been said that the Nintendo NX will substitute discs for cartridges, for example. On the other hand, others say that it will be compatible with virtual reality and may even be a handheld-standard console hybrid.
