An almost-complete version of Windows 8 is finally here. Windows 8 Release Preview version's download link became live on Thursday and is available for consumers to try now.
The latest preview version of Windows 8 was released in the early hours of Thursday. It is the third preview version of the latest Windows operating system released by Microsoft. The last preview version was launched in February and was called "Consumer Preview". After analyzing the timing of these releases, analysts believe that the final version of Windows 8 might be available in September or October. The latest version offers detailed customization feature. Users will be able to customize start menu which was not available in the previous version.
This latest Release Preview version also features better multi-monitor support. There are some other small tweaks and features that make the latest version look smarter. Now users will be able to enjoy a large number of third party apps in the latest Windows 8 version as the in-built Windows Store application is updated. This in-built store was under development in the last "Consumer Preview" version. Last time, Microsoft named the incomplete releases of Windows 7 "Beta" and "Release Candidate". But it decided to change the names this time to give things a different look.
As Microsoft is almost ready with its next operating system, companies like Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Lenovo are also preparing something new that can show off the next generation operating system perfectly. There are still two more steps left before the final version will be available for purchasing. Windows 8 RTM build or Release to Manufacturing version will be distributed to OEMs like HP, Dell, etc. and then the complete retail Windows 8 will be available worldwide. It is expected to be available around October.
Users can expect to see some new PCs that might feature Windows 8 at the Computex trade show in Taiwan next week. Many big PC makers are all set to show touch-screen laptops there with other new devices that are specially designed to run Windows 8.
