Blake Griffin is staying with LA Clippers. This was the declaration made by team head coach Doc Rivers during an interview on July 28 with Vertical Podcast host Adrain "Woj" Wojnarowski.
Rivers also said that no NBA team is asking about a possible trade with Griffin because they know he is not interested, according to Chat Sports. He said the trade rumors started when Boston radio host broadcasted that the LA clipper player is a suitable player for the Boston Celtics, according to Real GM. Soon after the first broadcast, the rumors of trading Blake Griffin spread like wild fire.
The LA Clipper head coach is hoping that the Blake Griffin trade rumor will die a natural death. However, NBA teams and fans alike are acutely aware that the Clipper's forward player will be out of his contract next year. That he means he is free to sign up with any team that wants him and there are quite a few who do.
Another player that Rivers does not want to lose is point guard Chris Paul. Like Blake, he too will be freed from his contract in 2017. The coach is confident however, that the team's latest owner, Steve Ballmer will make sure that does not happen. Ballmer is a former Microsoft chief executive who bought the La Clippers from Donald Sterling on 2014.
The coach believes he can persuade the two and other core players to stay with LA Clippers. Rivers said that he intends to keep winning games and providing the needs of the players is the key to success.
He cannot, however, prevent other teams from making offers to Griffin especially since he will be free agent come 2017. There is always the possibility that a rival team can present Blake a deal that he could not refuse. But for now, he stays with the LA Clippers.
