With the recent release of Microsoft's Xbox One S, gamers are turning to Sony for an alternative option. And Sony is going all out, and releasing two different consoles before the year ends - the PlayStation 4 Neo and the PlayStation 4 Slim.
According to Parent Herald, the PS4 Neo is expected to arrive in October for the price of $399. The official schedule, however, is expected to be made during Gamescom in Sony's own event.
At this point, these dates and numbers are all just speculation from Reddit users as Sony has not made an official announcement regarding either the release or price of the unit.
Meanwhile, the PS4 Slim is estimated to be available for $299, with the official announcement coming in the next month. IBTimes quotes Macquarie Securities analyst Damian Thong as saying the reveal will come during "a game show in September." The game show in question is likely to be the Tokyo Game show, which will happen from September 15 to 18.
The PS4 Slim is expected to come at a standard 500GB and without Ultra High Definition. In fact, the entire idea of the console really is just a slimmed down version of the PS4 that is already available in the market. The Slim will give Sony a chance to give its primary console a fresher look at a possibly cheaper price.
Reportedly, Sony's plans are to highlight the Neo as the console to use for PlayStation Virtual Reality. The PSVR is launching in October, which makes an October release of the Neo only logical. Just the same, the Slim is expected to ride along the same train. Further, an October release will give Sony the opportunity to maximize its sales for the Holiday. After all, with the release of the Xbox One S, Sony needs to reveal its latest competition.
