Nintendo Switch 2 Is Now Confirmed, And It Is Coming Soon
Nintendo dropped the bomb, the Switch 2, last Thursday, officially confirming the new console will succeed in its highly successful hybrid gaming platform from eight years ago. The first-look video combines the old Switch and the new Switch 2 so users can see how the latest device evolved from its previous iteration, including its better and bigger screen size.
The company also introduced a revamp of the Joy-Con controllers, which are now magnetically attached. The side buttons (SL, SR) now protrude, and many are speculating that they are getting hall-effect joysticks.
While Nintendo did not dive in yet regarding its specs and performance, the company revealed that it will have two USB-C ports, a redesigned dock, and it will feature a new "Mario Kart" game.
Analysts Predict 15 Million Sales For Switch 2's 1st Year.
According to analyst George Jijiashvili (via Digital Trends), Nintendo is predicted to sell as much as 15 million units of the Switch 2 in its first year of release, with the original console lineup managing to sell 147 million units in the past 8 years. That being said, Bloomberg also has a prediction for Switch 2, and Nintendo will target 20 million sales or more in its first year.
The Nintendo Switch 2: Here's What to Expect
Some leaks and rumors previously claimed that Nintendo would unveil the Switch 2 console, which was its unofficial name back then, in 2024, but last year's calendar ran out without catching a glimpse of the successor. However, as many fans and gamers asked if there will be a reveal coming by 2025, many sources were adamant that Nintendo targets this new year for its unveiling.
Nintendo's trailer showed how it evolved from the lowly Switch to this new console. Previous leaks talked about the many changes, including a bigger screen, magnetically-attaching Joy-Cons, two USB-C ports, and a new dock, and Big Red confirmed all these in the said video.
Nintendo is set to reveal more of the Switch 2 console by April via a dedicated Direct event highlighting the new condo. The Japanese gaming company has confirmed that it will be released this year.
