Windows 8 Set To Get Xbox SmartGlass Support

Microsoft, at the E3 2012, has revealed that the company’s upcoming Operating System Windows 8 will have Xbox SmartGlass support. While Microsoft is now set to join both its console and Windows ecosystem, this may take a while to happen.

SmartGlass is the new multi-screen/multi-platform app from Microsoft and although SmartGlass will be available on many types of tablets and phones, the company has reminded everyone that Windows 8 is a SmartGlass platform, and will work on both PC (desktop/laptop version of Windows) as well as Windows RT tablets.

The app can move video content from PC to console to tablet and, in turn, transforming the other device into a "second screen." SmartGlass can also port a browser window up on the TV screen via Xbox.

However, nothing has been mentioned by the company as to what is being done for an enhanced gaming experience as well. The only possible thing known till now about the Windows 8-SmartGlass coordination is that users with SmartGlass interface will be able to join multiplayer games on their Xbox.

Users can also control an Internet Explorer browser on their big-screen TV, via the Xbox, with the help of SmartGlass, according to a CNET report.
