One of the brightest objects of our universe, Venus, is giving you the chance to experience a once in a lifetime celestial event when it will cross the Sun today a little after 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
Experts state that until sunset everyone will have an opportunity to witness the transit of Venus, which will take place again after 105 years, in 2117.
While the event will not be as big as an eclipse, viewers can see a super-bright ring around Venus. The ring will be caused by the Sun rays while passing through the atmosphere of Venus on their way to Earth, reported HelenaIr.
Although the event might look like a dot in front of the sun, "it really is an impressive event," believes Ashley Oliverio, member of The Helena Astronomical Society secretary-treasurer of and Helena Club.
The latest celestial event will help astronomers estimate the distance between the Earth and the Sun and also let them figure out the relative size of the solar system, say experts.
While people residing in the central and western US will have more time to enjoy the event, viewers from Alaska, Japan, Australia and Russia will be able to see it in its entirety.
Meanwhile, tech geeks have created an app called VenusTransit to allow the enthusiastic viewers from around the world to see Venus transverse the sun.
