'Supergirl' Season 2 Moves To CBS; What We Know About The New Cast

The Melisa Benoist-led series "Supergirl" casts new characters as speculations run high that the show might return to its home network, CBS, in its second instalment.

Supporters of 'Supergirl' Season 1 have two new faces to expect on season 2, Mon El and Miss Martian. IGN reported that Mon El is a superhero with Superman-like powers. The role will be played by Chris Wood of Containment while Hellcat’s Sharon Leal will take the role of Miss Martian, whose story is a tad similar to Supergirl.

Joining the new cast on the second season is Calista Flockhart. She is set for a comeback to Supergirl as a recurring guest star, especially since her remarkable presence in season 1 was well-received by fans. Flockhart will portray Cat Grant’s role, Kara Danvers' boss at CatCo.

"Supergirl wouldn't be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant," Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg stated. "We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen," Kreisberg added.

When asked as to why the hit show will be moved to its sister firm CW, “At the end of the day, we looked at the situation and said, ‘How can we both win from this?’” CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller said. “We co-own the CW, so this was an opportunity for both CBS and Warner Bros. to really benefit from the success of the show; they produce it and we co-own the network.”

In addition, International Business Times revealed that if CBS had not pitched a good deal with CW, the latter will not put the show back during Monday nights.

Despite the show’s relocation of production to Vancouver, the cast is optimistic that such change would do great things for the series and the whole team.

"Supergirl" season 2 is directed by Kevin Smith and will premiere on October 10.
