The Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 jailbreak is now out. If you haven’t already jailbroken iOS 5.1.1 with greenpois0n Absinthe, or if you are looking for some alternative, try out the new version redsn0w.
However, before you go forward with it, make sure that your device (iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad) is compatible with the latest version of jailbreak. At the moment, redsn0w only supports A4 devices or lower on iOS 5.1.1, which means iPhone 4 or lower are supported. So if you have an iPhone 4 or older iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch model, you may continue.
Here are the steps to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 with redsn0w
1. Download redsn0w 0.9.12b1 from the links given below. You will find that there are versions available for both Mac and Windows.
2. Now plug in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into your computer and open up redsn0w.
3. Select Jailbreak from the menu.
4. Go through the information redsn0w gives you about what devices are compatible. Once you're sure to go forward with the jailbreak, select Next and you will be asked and guided through putting your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into DFU mode.
5. So now that you have successfully got your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into DFU mode, redsn0w will ask you to select you options. Check Install Cydia and click Next.
6. Redsn0w will take it from here. You should be able to slide and unlock once you’re done, and you’ll see Cydia on one of your Home screens.
Remember that the first time you run Cydia it will probably need to build the file system and re-spring and that's normal.
