Johnny Depp, Amber Heard Divorce Update: Settlement Reached After Domestic Violence Petition Withdrawal

Hollywood celebrities Johnny Depp and Amber Heard finally reached a settlement to their controversial divorce case on Tuesday.

TMZ reported that both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard filed legal documents early this week. Amber withdrew her domestic violence petition to extend a restraining order against her ex-husband. She had alleged Johnny assaulted her on May 21 but now the case is dismissed. Moreover, the actress discharged the case with prejudice, which means she can never re-file it.

Amber and Johnny released a joint statement about their agreed divorce. "Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm."

According to CNN, Johnny agreed to pay Amber approximately $7 million in settlement money that includes attorneys' fees. Amber was reported to donate financial proceeds from the divorce to charity.

In an interview with People, L.A. family law expert Steve Mindel (not connected in the Depp and Heard case) expressed his opinion about the highly-publicized break-up, "This is a settlement that both parties can be happily unhappy with - and those are usually the best settlements."

To recall, difficult negotiations on both parties have been made for the past three months. Heard filed for divorce in May and obtained a temporary restraining order accusing Depp of abusing her during a big fight in their Los Angeles apartment. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star denied the said allegation.

Moreover, the lovely actress came to court with a bruise on her right cheek, accusing Depp of repeatedly hitting her and throwing a cellphone during their fight. A judge ordered Depp to stop communicating with Heard and to stay away from her.
