Serbia Men's basketball team will move on to this year's summer Olympic gold medal game after upsetting the Australian team in the semi-finals match with 87-61. They will face the Olympic powerhouse of team USA on a gold medal match this coming Sunday.
Serbia has been impressive with their summer Olympic outings lately with winning their first game against Venezuela. Although they dropped their next two games against Australia and France, they still bounced back beating Croatia and Australia in the quarter finals and semi-finals, respectively. According to the reports, Croatia really pushes Serbia to their limits as both teams played their hearts out throughout the entire course of the game.
It was dubbed as the 'Battle of Bogdanovics' as both players from each teams racked up points from their respective clubs. Bojan Bogdanovic finished the game with a stellar 28 points on 7 of 15 shooting for Croatia. This the latest best performance from the Brooklyn Nets forwards. Bogdan Bogdanovic, on the other hand, has his big game for Serbia during the outing. His guard tallies 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field. The Serbian guard's NBA rights are currently being held by the Sacramento Kings after the trade.
On the other hand, USA is arguably the best basketball team in the world ending the group stage match with a perfect 4-0 record. According to Bleacher Report, USA had destroyed China and Venezuela on their first two games. However, despite of winning the last two games, the Americans had experienced their first real challenge during those games. After beating Spain on their semi-finals match, team USA is looking to add another gold medal on their collection.
According to The Roar, the Serbians may upset the Americans despite of being the underdog going to the match. Improving their physicality especially in the paint and being active on the glass is suggested by the experts. Despite losing their last match against USA, it was indeed a very close game with USA winning by just 3 points. If they can make improvements on their overall executions, the Serbians might hand USA their first lost in the summer Olympics and taking away their hopes for a gold medal.
