Google has just launched the new Android OS for smartphones. This is the Android 7.0, which has been named Nougat. Though it has just rolled out to select smart phones, the Android Nougat will already get its first maintenance update quite soon.
According to NextPowerUp, the first maintenance update should be coming in around October. With this update, the features that have not been added to Android Nougat on its intial release is said to be added in by then. It has not been stated why the features have not been added on Android Nougat's initial release.
GSM Arena has also stated that the first maintenance update will be coming around Fall this year, which would make the October release likely. This would then be in time for the holiday season, where it's expected that most shoppers will be looking for smart phones featuring the new Android OS.
With the release of Android Nougat, people have noticed that some features that were supposed to come along with it are not included. The features not included are said to be coming out with the first maintenance update. Google has said that the maintenance release updates would be coming in regularly.
"We're moving Nougat into a new regular maintenance schedule over the coming quarters," David Burke, Engineering VP has posted on the Android Developers blog. With a regular maintenance schedule, Android Nougat then hopes to have updates each quarter. Along with the release of Android Nougat 7.1 might also be the coming new Nexus smart phones.
With the coming maintenance update, the features not included in its release would be coming this Fall. The features that are said to be coming with the update include the Nexus Launcher, Google Assistant and some of the redesigned buttons for Android 7.
Though the coming features would find its way in the maintenance update, for people in the beta program the features might come to them earlier. When the Developer Preview for maintenance release one comes out for Nougat, those on the beta program will be the first ones who would be able to view them.
The maintenance update release of Android Nougat will also likely be featured in the coming Nexus smart phones. This year the Nexus phones would be handled by HTC, which has also produced Nexus phones in the past.
An earlier iTechPost report stated that Android Nougat might have a delayed release.
