The age of the wireless, portable and voice activated technology is truly upon us, and everyone wants a piece of it. Undeniably, Amazon started this trend when they released their voice-activated Echo speaker series. Although Google is catching up pretty quick as they launch Google Home this coming fall or spring.
But it seems like Samsung just gave Amazon and Google a headstart. Consider FCC Documents a bearer of good news as they revealed Samsung's new development, the bluetooth voice activated speaker called Scoop. As far as aesthetics goes, the Scoop speaker may have the same appearance and functionality as the Amazon Echo. On the side, you'll find a power button and a flap hiding a USB plug. The speaker is on top along with the volume controls and the Play/Pause buttons plus it has an audio jack hidden in the removable panel.
Although it sounds like it's offering the same features as the Amazon Echo, what truly sets it apart from Echo and the Home is the fact that it's portable. You can expect the Scoop to be small with a carrying strap. Its diameter is about 90 centimeters but only 3.5 inches in height as opposed to Amazon Echo as it is 9.3 inches tall.
While there are no confirmations about the voice activated feature, it is likely to be integrated like the "S-Voice" on the Galaxy smartphone.
There's a question floating around the web about this wonderful ultra portable device, and it deserves an answer. Since Samsung is shutting down milk music, is the scoop going to be dependent on the internet or data for it to work? Hopefully, it doesn't.
It's undeniable that Amazon Echo is currently ahead of the race at this time, but as soon as the Scoop Speaker is launched - Samsung could easily take the lead.
