Critically acclaimed “Suicide Squad” nabs the box office title for three consecutive weeks and is strong – willed in maintaining its much-coveted crown throughout this month.
Forbes reported that the Will Smith/Margot Robbie/Viola Davis/Jared Leto movie earned another $6 million last Friday night which is a drop of 54% from last Friday. However, this significant plunge did not stop the forces of supervillains in attracting more viewers to patronize their controversial film.
Senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian stated that "Suicide Squad” bears a creative strategy that took them to the box-office. "Everyone has been picking on this film critically. But the power of anti-superheroes at the box office is unquestionable. Do you want love or do you want box-office dominance?"
Three newly released films namely “Ben-Hur,” “War Dogs” and “Kubo & the Two Strings” are not acing well on their performance in the big screens.
USA Today reported that Paramount and MGM's saga directed by Timur Bekmambetov crashed to a $11.35 million opening weekend, barely finishing fifth. Despite the hefty production budget of $100 million, “Ben-Hur couldn't persuade religious moviegoers to support the retelling of the 1959 classic, which earned 11 Academy Awards.
According to Variety, “Don’t Breathe” has the ability to outpace “Suicide Squad” in the box-office.
Shawn Robbins, senior analyst at BoxOffice.com, noted that “Don’t Breathe” could surprise everyone this weekend. “It’s been a slow and steady climb on social media and these low-budget to mid-budget horror films tend to do much better than expected.”
To recall, Rotten Tomatoes has given the DC movie “Suicide Squad” a horrible review, hence, petitions were raised to shut down the site for its biased reports.
