Screenwriters of the hit YA adaptation “The Fault in Our Stars” Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber are tapped to write the script for Fox's “X-Men” spinoff “New Mutants”.
This is the second collaboration of the two writers with "New Mutants" director Josh Boone. Their first team-up was with “The Fault in Our Stars”, which Boone took the role as a filmmaker.
In his Instagram account, Boone shows fans a glimpse of the characters that will partake significant roles in the upcoming movie. The animated images reveal Mirage, Wolfsbane, Magik, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Warlock.
Hitflix mentioned that “Game of Thrones’” Maisie Williams takes the role of the shapeshifter Wolfsbane and that Anya Taylor – Joy of “The Witch” gears up to play Illya Rasputin, aka Magik.
The same post claimed that James McAvoy to play a relevant role and Alexandra Shipp, who plays Storm in “X-Men: Apocalypse” will also join the team.
Producer Simon Kinberg stated that the "New Mutants" empower a young adult vibe which makes really sense when they sought the writing skills of Neustadter and Weber.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neustadter and Weber are seasoned writers famous for their young adult movie genre. Aside from penning The Fault in Our Stars (2014), their previous works include 2013's The Spectacular Now (2013) and Paper Towns (2015).
Moreover, they are the writing gems behind “The Masterpiece” (formerly known as The Disaster Artist), an upcoming fall comedy directed by James Franco and their recent adaptation of Netflix’ “Our Souls at Night,” a love story that stars Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.
No casting announcement has been released yet by the movie honchos but the new film is expected to roll out in theaters in 2018 and as early as now we join the overjoyed fans’ on their beaming excitement of this thrilling blockbuster hit.
Marvel Comics’ New Mutants was created by Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod. They made a debut in 1982 and featured a large cast of teenage mutant superheroes including "Deadpool."
