WWDC 2012: iOS 6 Brings New Maps, Redesigned iTunes, App Store, Facebook Integration and More

Apple unveiled the next generation mobile operating system, iOS 6 at the Worldwide Developer's Conference 2012 on Monday. This new operating system includes tons of new features.

iOS 6's new Maps app was presented at WWDC's keynote address. But what wasn't featured at the address was Apple's redesigned App Store, iBookstore and iTunes Store. People can see its redesign at Apple's website. There is not much information available except all three looked attractive with updated home pages. New apps are now featured in the App store with new media contents in the iTunes store.

Moreover, anything users preview will be synced via iCloud. So, if a user preview something in a shop, it will be saved as history and can be reviewed from your other iOS devices.

The New Maps app is going to replace Google Maps. Apple is ready to present its own mapping solution and to ditch Google Maps. This app features Yelp integration, turn-by-turn navigation, improved traffic and 3D flyovers. This service can be used in the lock screen for security reasons with Siri integration.

Twitter was already integrated with iOS and the baked version of iOS features Facebook integration.

Apple SVP of iOS software, Scott Forstall announced at the WWDC that iOS 6 will feature a deeper integration with Facebook. Users will be able to like apps in the App Store, share apps with friends and receive notifications once they log in to their Facebook accounts.

There were rumors about FaceTime over 3G and it's finally here. Video chat fans will enjoy FaceTime over cellular networks. "FaceTime will also work with iCloud, so if you get a call on your phone, you can answer it on your Mac or iPad," Forstall said while presenting this feature.

A beta version of iOS 6 has been released for developers and is available for download now. It will work on iPad 2 and up, iPhone 3GS and up and iPod touch fourth generation and beyond. Users of the new iPad can now stop waiting for Siri as it's also a feature of iOS 6.
