Nokia To Launch PureView On Lumia Phones: Chris Webber

After a series of rumors and speculations, President of Nokia USA and Head of Marketing for North America, Chris Webber has announced that PureView camera technology will be part of the Lumia and Windows phones. But when that technology will be featured in the Nokia phones and when such device will be announced, are not yet confirmed, Webber adds.

Webber, in an interview, informed that "you can expect we'll be bringing PureView technologies to the Windows Phone platform in future Lumia devices." While the dates are not yet fixed, the Finnish company is "absolutely committed" to introduce the feature and will also be in touch with Microsoft to ensure that the Windows Phone "supports the broad set of things" to launch PureView tech.

While 41 megapixel is something that immediately grabs our attention, but in reality the PureView camera cannot take 41-megapixel shots. It does oversampling and combines data from seven adjacent pixels and then consolidates them into one pixel's worth resulting into an image of about 5-megapixels. But the quality of the image is certainly much better than any of the standard 5-megapixel cameras.

During the interview, Webber also talked about the future of Nokia and plans to expand their market share.

Nokia launched the PureView camera on the Nokia PureView 808 in this year's Mobile World Congress.

Meanwhile, other rumors indicate that the next version of Windows phone (Windows Phone 8 Apollo) will replace the existing Microsoft's Bing Maps app with Nokia Maps. It might also add 3D navigation and hardware acceleration on all Windows Phones. Among other rumored features, an NFC-based "Windows Phone Wallet" and Skype support built into the OS itself top the Wishlist of the Nokia lovers.

On June 20, Microsoft will let the smartphone lovers to have a 'sneak peek' of the first Windows Phone 8. While improvement in the camera of the phone is expected, the company might not include PureView this time.
