Microsoft released an update earlier this week, which could prove to be vital for all Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book users. The same basically outline driver updates for the Surface Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), Surface Integration, Surface Integration Service Device and the Surface Management Engine. And while all the driver updates are important in their own way, only users that have downloaded the Anniversary Update can take advantage of it.
Unified Extensible Firmware Interface Update
As Phone Arena notes, the update of the UEFI on both the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book requires a reboot. However, as this is what connects the hardware to the device's operating system, it is an relatively important one to have.
In essence, the update improves on the stability and performance of the device whenever it has to change between power states.
Surface Integration
Meanwhile, the Surface Integration of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book has plenty to do with a lot of the features of the gadgets. But for this specific update, Microsoft improved the usability and battery life.
Surface Integration Service Device
Much like Surface Integration, Surface Integration Service Device has a lot to do with the features of the device, particularly storage and sleep or hibernate capabilities. Specifically the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book now have a more balanced power plan whenever the OS is updated, which the update has correctly set.
This is particularly important as some users have complained about the gadgets' inability to automatically go into hibernation mode, thereby using a lot of battery life.
Surface Management Engine
Thurrott adds that the Surface Management Engine of the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book also received an update. Much like the UEFI update, it has improved on the stability and performance of the gadgets whenever it is forced to transfer from one power state to another.
