‘Overwatch’ Is Playable For Free On Xbox One and PS4 For This Weekend Only

Since the game has been released on PC and console platforms back in May, Overwatch has been greatly admired by the fans. The new multiplayer shooter game has tallied over 15 million active players across all platforms. Based on the reports, Blizzard is possibly unfulfilled with the game's strong performance driving them to encourage more players to purchase the game. As a result, they are currently offering Overwatch for free on both Xbox One and PS4.

According to the official website of Overwatch, the free trial will start on September 9 at 11:00 AM PT and ends on September 12 at 4:00 PM PT. Sources said that it will be available in all gameplay regions. This will be available for owners Xbox One with an Xbox Live Gold membership and PS4 users. The Overwatch Free Weekend will allow players to play the game for free including all characters and the current maps available. In addition, they are also given access to the level up system and loot boxes.

According to Game Rant, players are given access to all in-game luxuries including leveling up, Hero customization, and unlocking loot boxes that comes with the XP-earning system. However, players are only able to keep everything they had unlocked if they will buy the actual Overwatch: Origins Edition game thereafter. It is also reported that players will also have a smooth play gaming experience since there will no plans of having a downtime or maintenance.

In addition, PlayStation Plus members are not required in order to participate in the Overwatch Free Weekend for PlayStation compared to the Xbox Live Gold for Xbox One. On the other hand, Xbox owners share their own sentiment on these free weekends and game events. Based on their statements, these events are technically not 'free' to them as they felt that they are only getting a raw deal.

Overwatch Free Weekend will also be taking part on the PC platforms soon. As for the details, it is still unclear as to when will it happen. However, Li Riqiang, president of NetEase has issued a statement regarding on a free 'Overwatch' trial on other platforms which is expected to include a PC version.
