Napoleon: Total War Will Be Free-to-play Until Sunday

Publisher Sega has announced that its multi award-winning turn-based strategy and real-time tactics game “Napoleon: Total War” will be free to download and play from Steam from Thursday June 14, 6PM GMT/10AM PST until Sunday June 17, 5PM GMT/9AM PST. The game, at the same time, will be 50 percent off the normal purchase price.

Commemorating 197 years since the defeat of Emperor Napoleon by the Duke of Wellington, developers The Creative Assembly hopes to further expand the Anglo-French (and Prussian) relations by allowing all gamers the chance to restructure or alter history with a free Steam weekend.

The game is set in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Players assume the role of Napoleon Bonaparte, or one of his major rivals, on a turn-based campaign map and engage in the subsequent battles in real-time.

“Whether you play as the legendary General or against, the outcome of war can never be guaranteed. The course of history relies on your ability to lead your troops through the most intense battles as never seen before in a Total War game,” according to the game’s official page. “Napoleon: Total War defines a new standard within the genre with exciting characters and a cinematic narrative, mind-blowing battle sequences and an unrivaled mix of turn-based and real-time strategy.”

The full version of “Napoleon: Total War” will be available to play for free until Sunday and be downloaded through Valve’s Steam service. Additionally, during this free-to-play period and up to 5PM GMT/9AM PST on Monday 18th June, the title can be purchased for 50 percent less than its usual price.
