The writers then made the story to only run for three full seasons.

Renewal Of "Wayward Pines" For Season 3 Still Hanging On The Balance; To Tackle More On Human Evolution
The fans are now still anticipating and theorizing storylines for when the story gets picked up for a third season. In an interview with the executive producer of "Wayward Pines," he said that the series will focus on how the human race will eventually evolve into Abbies. However, it is not only the humans who will evolve, but the Abbies just as well.
