PlayStation 4 will soon have two new siblings, the PS 4 Slim and the PS 4 Neo. Sony is expected to announce the two new upcoming PlayStation models on September 7.

PS 4 vs PS 4 Slim vs PS 4 Neo General Overview

Sony sold an estimated 40 million units of the current PS 4 model. The sheer number of current PS 4 owners indicates that they are an important market segment for The Japanese game tech company. The upcoming PS 4 Slim is expected to be launched this year while the PS 4 Neo also known as the PS4.5 or PS4K will be released sometime next year, according to Pocket Lint.

4K HDR/Blu-ray Capability

The current PS 4 model does not have any 4K capabilities either for gaming or Ultra HD Blu-ray. The upcoming PS 4 Slim is reportedly not 4K capable as well. But the PS 4 Neo will have 4K resolution and capabilities according to Sony Chief Andrew House.

Processing Power

The current PlayStation 4 model and the upcoming PS 4 Slim are run by an AMD Jaguar central processor with a GPU running at 1.84 teraflops. The PS 4 Neo however, will reportedly have a 2.1 GHz octa-core CPU, GPU running at 4.14 teraflops and 218 GB GDDR5 RAM.

PS 4 And Upcoming PS 4 Slim, PS 4 NEO Design

Using the current PS 4 model as basis, the upcoming PS 4 Slim is reportedly thinner and smaller. There have been a number of pictures purportedly showing the PS 4 Slim although Sony has not confirmed them. No pictures of the PS 4 Neo has yet surface but observers believed that it will probably be lighter and smaller than the current PS 4 model.

PlayStation To Buy

Those who can afford and willing to wait for the best PlayStation model will want the PS 4 Neo. The PS 4 Slim is basically an improved design of the current PS 4 model and it's available in a few days. However, it basically shares the same hardware specs with the current PS 4 model. The current PS 4 model will undoubtedly drop its prices once the new models arrived.
