Heliguy reports that photos of the DJi foldable drone project leaked this past week. Specs details were also leaked along with the images. Besides the mentioned publication, the first to post online the leaked photos has been MyFirstDrone (via Slashgear).

According to The Verge, the DJi foldable drone will supposedly come with two-axis gimbal, a 4K camera, a 3,830 mAh battery, up to 300 meter Wi-Fi and an LCD display that runs Android. The flying device will be the DJI's lightest drone, with a weigh of only 1.43 pounds.

DJI has already confirmed the leaked information. Following the image leak, the company has sent out an invitation to reporters for a media event scheduled on September 27 in New York City. According to Pocket-lint, the invite asks attendees to "rediscover adventure with DJI." That means it's likely to see the Mavic foldable drone at the event, according to tech experts.

According to TechCrunch, DJI has built its foldable drone on a previous trademark application that has been filed earlier for the product name. DJI's existing photographic drones diverge from the newly leaked photos by employing a folding design. Especially when compared to DJI's current fixed-arm quadcopters, the folding design would allow the Mavic drone to become portable.

The images depict a design with hinged arms mounted top and bottom. The arms can swing out in order to create the traditional quadcopter design. According to the specs leaked out for the new drone, the removable battery will make it easier for users of the Mavic drone to keep shooting on the go.

September will bring more interesting events for aerial photography. Later this month, the well-known camera maker GoPro will debut its own Karma drone.
