U.S. wireless communication operator, Verizon has introduced some spectacular speed limits for its residential consumers.
The company has recently introduced its new FiOS Quantum broadband internet service, which it claims to feature heightened flexibility for consumers to order personalized bundles to match their lifestyles.
The new service will offer up to 300Mbps downloads and up to 65Mbps uploads along with digital TV and phone packages. In other words, the FiOS Quantum will offer upload/download speeds of 50/25, 75/35, 150/65 and 300/65 Mbps, the latter three offering speeds twice as fast as what was previously offered by Verizon.
That means, with the new Verizon service the users would be able to download a 5GB Full HD movie in just 2.2 minutes.
Commenting on the development, Bob Mudge, president of Verizon's consumer and mass market business unit, said in the company press release, "A revolution in speed has arrived. The new FiOS Internet speed and bundle options provide incredible value, and represent the most significant mass scale, consumer broadband speed enhancement in the nation in the past decade."
Meanwhile, Verizon also informed that the company will continue to offer its entry-level speed of 15/5 Mbps.
"As consumers stream and watch more movies, sports and shows in their homes and on devices other than traditional TVs, such as smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, Smart TVs and Blu-ray players, they need faster broadband to enhance their experience," said Mike Ritter, CMO for Verizon's consumer and mass market business unit.
The service is available as a standalone service as well as part of Verizon's double and triple-play bundles.
Plan Pricing
Existing FiOS customers will be able to upgrade to the new plans for free. But the company has informed that upgrading will typically cost customers, ranging from an additional $10 to $15 per month, and will double or triple the speed of their existing plans.
