Two of the biggest names in the smartphone industry are going at it, this time at the still relatively new smartwatch market. Apple has the Apple Watch 2 while Samsung has come out with the Gear S3. Consumers would then be curious as to which smartwatch would be for them, and a comparison of the two is bound to be inevitable.
Design
First off, most consumers would look at the design of the smartwatches. The Samsung Gear S3 is more traditional here in that it is round, whereas the Apple Watch 2 would be square in shape. Samsung also brings to the Gear S3 its AMOLED technology used in its smart phones, making the device's resolution much clearer. On the other hand, Apple says that its new smartwatch is more durable now with a ceramic composite body.
Features
For its features, Apple has watchOS3 to run on the Apple Watch 2. This is essentially an upgrade over the previous version, according to Trusted Reviews. Perhaps an advantage of the Apple Watch 2 is that it supports Pokemon Go, which would be a big draw for the Apple smartwatch.
For the Samsung Gear S3, it has the Samsung's Tizen as its OS. Tizen is said to support as many as 10,000 apps. The Samsung Gear 3 can be LTE-enabled as well, making it convenient enough to not even need a smartphone around. Aside from that, the Gear S3 also has a gyroscope, GPS and a heart rate sensor.
Hardware
The Samsung Gear S3 has a dual-core 1 GHz processor and has 768 MB of RAM. For storage, it can have as much as 4 GB of storage capacity. Apple also has a dual-core processor for the Apple Watch 2.
Perhaps one aspect where the Samsung Gear S3 has an advantage is battery life, as Mobile & Apps notes. The Gear S3 has a 380 mAh battery which can last up to four days if the display is not always on. If the display is turned on, then it can last for as much as two days. Apple has not revealed yet what is the battery capacity of the Apple Watch 2, though the original Apple Watch only had a 205 mAh battery.
Pricing
The biggest factor that consumers would be looking at is the price. Samsung has not revealed yet the price for the Gear S3, though it should be around almost the same price as the Gear S2. The Gear S2 sold for £299 in the U.K. It's expected that the Gear S3 be almost the same.
The Apple Watch 2 is said to be set for pre-order on September 9 and will cost at around £369, making it more expensive than the Samsung Gear S3.
Overall, both smartwatches are almost equally matched and consumer preference will be the deciding factor, as well as price. Both smartwatches have great features which many would be eager to try out.
