Podcasts will be treated pretty specially with the arrival of iOS 6 – with their own special app.
For those new to the whole podcast feature, these are pre-recorded audio shows of various genres that users can subscribe to and listen to even when offline. You can also subscribe to your favorite shows (audio only or audio video) in the iTunes library and watch/hear them as and when you like. When you sync your iDevice, you can do the same on the go, or from the comfort of your laptop.
In iOS 6’s podcasts app, users will be able to discover, download and play podcasts through the dedicated app. Also, if you are more comfortable accessing podcasts via iTunes through your laptop and desktop, you will still find the podcasts tab there.
While some ask the question if podcasts really deserve an app of its own, others feel that it’s high time that podcasts get a special app to make the feature easily accessible.
Meanwhile, Apple also recently announced that the company will be stopping Ping, its social networking iTunes app for music lovers. The service was introduced back in September 2010 but hasn’t received the response Apple expected it to.
The new iOS 6 from Apple is set to have over 200 new features like the upgraded Siri, redesigned maps, more effective Facebook integration and a lot more. The podcasts are set to be one such addition to iOS 6.
