PlayStation 4 Set To Become A Cloud Gaming Console?

Sony’s upcoming next-gen gaming console, the PlayStation 4, could receive a major boost if the new rumors are to be believed. The gaming console could take a major leap into cloud gaming with the arrival of the PlayStation 4.

According to the latest reports, Scott Rohde, CP of Sony Worldwide Studios, told GamesIndustry International that it's "absolutely inevitable that [cloud technology]'s going to be a part of what everyone does." He also added that he expects to see cloud gaming become the norm over the next five years.

Rohde, however, remained cautious on the subject of PS4's cloud gaming capabilities and declined to comment on whether it would feature an OnLive-style streaming service. But earlier in June, Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida told MCV that, "We're looking at what OnLive is doing, and the tech around that, and considering how this can be a part of PlayStation."

Sony is already expected to feature a next-gen gaming console that will counter any threat from Microsoft’s heavily rumored gaming console, the Xbox 720, and if Sony takes cue from Microsoft’s rumored decision to do away with optical disc drives, they might as well introduce the cloud technology in gaming.

More updates on cloud gaming will soon follow.
