Super Mario is unlikely to appear in a Virtual Reality (VR) game anytime soon. Mario's creator, Shigeru Miyamoto explains why.
Super Mario Intended for Families
Miyamoto denied that there was any plan to develop a VR based Mario Game, according to USA Today. He did admit that Mario managed to stay relevant after several decades in the gaming industry by adapting to various gaming platforms.
However, Miyamoto said that virtual reality is a platform Mario is not prepared to cross over. He added that Super Mario is a game intended for families or group who will "play it together". In contrast, VR is limited to one person or player who is cut off from the physical world. Miyamoto does not believe that a VR based Mario game will be something fans will play for a long time.
Super Mario Game in Smartphones and Mobile Devices
The success of Pokemon Go has inspired Nintendo and Miyamoto to develop a Super Mario game for smartphones. The Mario creator recently announced that Mario is coming to the iOS platform during the Apple - iPhone 7 launch date.
Super Mario Run will soon be available in the Apple App Store on December. Apple Watch owners will also get to play Pokemon Go in the near future. Android users will have to wait for a while though for their version of Super Mario Run. Initial review of the iOS version super Mario Run compared the gameplay similar to Angry Birds. Hopefully the Android version will feature a better gameplay than the iOS one.
Mario is the most recognizable Nintendo character created by Miyamoto. It is said that the Italian plumber was inspired by a "warehouse landlord". Mario first appeared in gaming world during the '80s and still coming strong in 2016 and probably beyond that.
