Wi-Fi Whoopsie: HTC Admits Wi-Fi Failure in Some Tegra One X’s

HTC released a statement to several news organizations Monday, confirming earlier reports that had begun to trickle in from customers; that some of the Tegra 3 models of their One X phones have design flaws that create some serious Wi-Fi issues for those unlucky individuals using one.

"After investigating isolated reports of WiFi connectivity issues in the HTC One X, we have identified a fix that strengthens the area of the phone around the WiFi antennae connection points. While many customers have not experienced any problems with signal strength, we have taken immediate steps to implement a solution in our production process to prevent this issue from happening in the future. HTC is committed to making sure every customer has a great experience and we apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused while we conducted a thorough investigation" read their statement.

Unfortunately, that fix in the production process does little to remedy the situation for those stuck with malfunctioning phones at present, of which there is no simple fix. It appears the issue is being caused by a loose connection between the One X's antenna and the motherboard, and as such, cannot be fixed through a software update.

For those affected, you can test whether your phone is affected by this issue by squeezing the phone gently between the thumb and forefinger near the top right of the screen, which can temporarily correct the issue by eliminating that loose connection. The manufacturing error only seems to be present in the quad-core Tegra 3 models of the One X.

Those affected by the issue should be able to return their malfunctioning phones for a new model without any issues. For any users who have unlocked their phones, and thus may not be able to return them, there is an extremely helpful video that will help you re-lock it:
